I viewed the film ” Aviator” last night and I am ashamed to say, i knew very little about such a prominent person in our nations history. This made me do some Google searches on Mr Howard Hughes.

Mr Hughes apparently was a very disturbed man who had a more than a few mental issues, ive always been told ” there is a fine line between a madman and a genius” which i now believe to be very accurate, He stood up against corrupt politicians, but was in some ways corrupt himself, He didn’t respect money and had no issues with taking or wasting other peoples money ( OPM ) but strangely enough, Hughes founded a medical institute and left all his Hughes aircraft holdings to this medical institute. Hughes also made his billion dollar a year weapons factory tax exempt.

a few inventions or aid to invent

hospital bed with adjustments

radar

satellite ( tv,weather,nav,communications)

bullet chain for automatic weapons

hydraulics’s for aircraft

the first moon landing craft

hellicopter

over-budget movies

Military-Industrial Complex: Throughout the 1950s, as the power of three entities grew — the Hughes empire, organized crime, and the new Central Intelligence Agency — it became all but impossible to distinguish between them. By the end of the decade, Hughes’ chief of staff, Robert Maheu, had orchestrated the CIA’s dirtiest secret — plots to assassinate Cuban leader Fidel Castro with the help of two heads of organized crime. Vice President Richard Nixon was the White House action officer in the clandestine attempts to oust Castro. Zapata Off-Shore, the oil company owned by future CIA director and U.S. president George Bush after he split it off from Zapata Oil partner Hugh Liedtke in 1954, had a drilling rig on the Cay Sal Bank in 1958. These islands had been leased to Nixon supporter and CIA contractor Howard Hughes the previous year and were later used as a base for CIA raids on Cuba. Nixon lost the 1960 presidential election to John F. Kennedy largely because of a scandal over a never repaid $205,000 “loan” Nixon’s brother received from Hughes. As attorney general, Robert Kennedy secretly investigated the Hughes-Nixon dealings.

i also find it very interesting that Hughes died in a jet that never crashed, in route to a hospital

In the movie a few things that were said that i cant find or confirm- at dinner with the Hepburn family the mother of Katherine Hepburn stated money was not an issue with the Hepburn family, Hughes said ” that is because you have it ” which is very true, but it left me wondering , if Hughes would have influenced the world the way he did , If he Himself did not have money ?

The senate hearings held by the apparent crooked Mr Brewster, Mr Hughes asks Mr Brewster if pan-am was giving him free flights for vacations, Mr Brewster says no i have gov business to conduct overseas, Mr Hughes says ” what the hell does a senator from Maine need to go to Peru for ? ”

Qoutes from Howard Hughes

“I’m not a paranoid deranged millionaire. Goddamit, I’m a billionaire.” HH

“His ears made him look like a taxicab with both doors open” HH

some Movie quotes

Howard Hughes: You want to go to war with me?
Sen. Ralph Owen Brewster: It’s not me, Howard. It’s the United States Government. We just beat Germany and Japan. Who the hell are you?

Sen. Ralph Owen Brewster: [talking of Howard Hughes] I’ll have him dragged here to Washington. I want to see the whites of his lies.

Katharine Hepburn: What’s that on the steering wheel?
Howard Hughes: Cellophane. If you had any idea of the crap that people carry around on their hands.
Katharine Hepburn: What kind of crap?
Howard Hughes: You don’t wanna know.

Katharine Hepburn: [flying Howard's plane] Howard, there’s a rather alarming mountain heading our way.

Howard Hughes: Will you marry me?
Ava Gardner: You’re too crazy for me.

Noah Dietrich: Nice day.
Howard Hughes: Yeah, very funny.
Noah Dietrich: Listen, I got a call from Houston. They’re getting real nervous about all this.
Howard Hughes: Stop showing them the damn bills, Noah.
Noah Dietrich: That would be illegal, Howard.
Howard Hughes: Shit, no. Maybe it’s a little bit naughty.

PORTLAND, Oregon (Reuters) – The United States’ first marijuana cafe opened on Friday, posing an early test of the Obama administration’s move to relax policing of medical use of the drug.

The Cannabis Cafe in Portland, Oregon, is the first to give certified medical marijuana users a place to get hold of the drug and smoke it — as long as they are out of public view — despite a federal ban.

“This club represents personal freedom, finally, for our members,” said Madeline Martinez, Oregon’s executive director of NORML, a group pushing for marijuana legalization.

“Our plans go beyond serving food and marijuana,” said Martinez. “We hope to have classes, seminars, even a Cannabis Community College, based here to help people learn about growing and other uses for cannabis.”

The cafe — in a two-story building which formerly housed a speak-easy and adult erotic club Rumpspankers — is technically a private club, but is open to any Oregon residents who are NORML members and hold an official medical marijuana card.

Members pay $25 per month to use the 100-person capacity cafe. They don’t buy marijuana, but get it free over the counter from “budtenders”. Open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., it serves food but has no liquor license.

There are about 21,000 patients registered to use marijuana for medical purposes in Oregon. Doctors have prescribed marijuana for a host of illnesses, including Alzheimer’s, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and Tourette’s syndrome.

On opening day, reporters invited to the cafe could smell, but were not allowed to see, people smoking marijuana.

“I still run a coffee shop and events venue, just like I did before we converted it to the Cannabis Cafe, but now it will be cannabis-themed,” said Eric Solomon, the owner of the cafe, who is looking forward to holding marijuana-themed weddings, film festivals and dances in the second-floor ballroom.

NO PROSECUTION

The creation of the cafe comes almost a month after the Obama administration told federal attorneys not to prosecute patients who use marijuana for medical reasons or dispensaries in states which have legalized them.

About a dozen states, including Oregon, followed California’s 1996 move to adopt medical marijuana laws, allowing the drug to be cultivated and sold for medical use. A similar number have pending legislation or ballot measures planned.

Pot cafes, known as “coffee shops”, are popular in the Dutch city of Amsterdam, where possession of small amounts of marijuana is legal. Portland’s Cannabis Cafe is the first of its kind to open in the United States, according to NORML.

Growing, possessing, distributing and smoking marijuana are still illegal under U.S. federal law, which makes no distinction between medical and recreational use.

Federal and local law enforcement agencies did not return phone calls from Reuters on Friday seeking comment on the Portland cafe’s operations.

Star Trek XI takes us to a time before the original Star Trek series to show us the characters when they were young troublemakers. That’s the real fun of it for Trek fans – seeing younger versions of their beloved characters.

There is a lot of character development and solid performances are delivered for the younger versions of Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Chekov and Scotty. Uhura delivers real lines rather than just “Hailing frequencies open”.

Unfortunately, the characters have been modified a little. Scotty has an English accent now and we see Spock and Uhura passionately kissing! The plan was to take away some of the distinctiveness of Star Trek and make it more mainstream (dumb it down a little). What we end up with is a cross between Star Ship Troopers and Star Trek Nemesis. It reaches out to a younger, teen audience.

Unlike most Star Trek films, there is no message and nothing to think about a day or a week after seeing the film. There is plenty of action and stunning visual effects. That is the meat of the film. It is not about pondering some sort of moral ambiguity, so it left me feeling a bit empty afterwards.

On the plus side, Shatner does not show his face in the movie. He was never really worthy of the honor that the Star Trek series bestowed upon him. He was just lucky to land the part. This is Nimoy’s chance to shine. Good for him.

It is male-positive in a macho/chivalrous sense. Just as in Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, both men and women fill out the ranks of the good side, while the ranks of the evil side are entirely male.

Despite all that, it is a really fun movie and it is still Star Trek. It starts out strong and it’s a thrilling ride right to the end. If you are a Trek fan, you can’t miss this film anyway, so stop reading and see it for yourself! It looks like sequels are already in the works.
I would have to say (as a star trek fan) out of all the star trek movies this one is the best, it seems to have been passed over by the media, what a shame. guarantee that you will like it ,give it a try

“We were able to show the tissue was able to integrate and function in the long term, which means we can start planning clinical applications [in humans],” said Dr. Anthony Atala, director of the Institute for Regenerative Medicine at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and senior author of the study. “Our hope is to be able to treat patients with many conditions, including congenital abnormalities of the penis, traumatic injuries, penile cancer and severe cases of erectile dysfunction that don’t benefit from drug treatments.”

The study is published in the Nov. 9 online edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The penis is a complex organ, with nerve, muscle and vascular cells all needing to work together to achieve and maintain an erection. During an erection, smooth muscle tissue relaxes, allowing blood to flow into the penis. Endothelial cells, which line blood vessels, trigger the process by releasing nitric oxide.

In the study, the researchers extracted smooth muscle cells and endothelial cells from the animals’ penises. The cells were then separated and grown in the laboratory on rod-shaped collagen scaffolds for support. The scaffold was placed in an incubator and nourished by fluids to mimic conditions inside the body, Atala said.

After the cells had matured, the scaffolding and the newly formed penile spongy tissue, called corpora cavernosa, was surgically implanted into the rabbits’ penises.

About a month later, the tissue began to reconstitute itself, forming new blood vessel structures necessary for proper functioning, while nerves from the existing penile tissue integrated into the new tissue. In time, Atala said, the collagen structure was reabsorbed, and the cells built their own collagen structure.

In the treated rabbits, tests showed that pressure inside the penis, a key component of an erection, was normal. Other tests showed that blood flow, response to nitric oxide, drainage of the blood after the erection and presence of sperm in the female vagina were also normal. The tissue engineering worked so well that four of 12 females were impregnated by the repaired rabbits, according to the study.

Dr. Andrew McCullough, director of male sexual health, fertility and microsurgery at NYU Langone Medical Center, said the results are promising.

“It has a long way to go, but the researchers have basically shown they can take cells from an organ, culture them, put them back in and have them be functional,” McCullough said. “This is especially impressive because the penis is an organ that’s a very sensitive hydraulic pump, so to speak. During an erection, blood has to flow into the organ. The organ then has to expand and then shut down the drainage so the blood doesn’t flow back out. And all of these things are very interrelated.”

Better treatments for erectile dysfunction are badly needed, McCullough added. About 35 percent of men don’t respond to impotence drugs, including Viagra, Cialis and Levitra. As men age, diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension — all conditions that can affect male sexual function — can worsen, making the drugs less effective.

In previous research, the Wake Forest researchers engineered human bladders in the lab. In clinical trials, about 30 children and adults with congenital bladder abnormalities or bladder injuries who were treated with the engineered tissue showed normal or improved bladder function for nearly 10 years, Atala said. Other researchers have shown some success in clinical trials with transplanting windpipe tissue.

He makes jokes for a living, but comedian Katt Williams was not laughing when he was arrested Sunday night and charged with criminal trespass and burglary of a Smokey Road home.

The burglary was reported about 9 p.m. Sunday when the residents of the property at 3410 Smokey Road in western Coweta County came home and found a broken window and called 911, according to Major James Yarbrough of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

The people reporting the burglary, a couple named Broach, were described by authorities as caretakers of the property, which is owned by Bruce Hankerson.

//

When authorities reached the scene it was determined that illegal entry had been made and that property including jewelry and collectible coins had been stolen, according to Coweta County Sheriff Mike Yeager.

After securing the residence, investigators began a search for a possible perpetrator. Yarbrough said Williams was found and taken into custody not far from the home.

Williams was in Coweta working on a film project, Yarbrough said. Williams was charged with burglary and criminal trespass and taken to the Coweta County Jail

At a Monday afternoon bond hearing, Coweta County Magistrate Judge Joseph A. Wyant Jr. said he was concerned about the amount of bail to be set because records showed Williams had failed to appear in other court cases some time ago.

Williams, wearing a white jail jumpsuit, said the missed court appearances happened when he was a juvenile and unaware that he was supposed to appear in court. “I’ve never missed a court appearance,” Williams said.

Wyant said once bond was set, the case would be turned over to the Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s office for arraignment and would probably go to a grand jury.

Wyant said the next Coweta Superior Court grand jury would be seated in January, but Wyant said he could not guarantee Williams’ case would be heard then.

Wyant said that because of Williams’ record, bond on the burglary charge would be higher than usual, but said he did not want to set the bond so high it would hinder Wlliams’ ability to pay living expenses or child care or keep him from working.

Wyant said because of Williams’ work schedule involves extensive travel, he would not set any travel restrictions.

“I just want to make sure you come back,” Wyant said.

“You set the bond high enough to make sure I do,” Williams said. “Whatever it takes, I just want to get out of here and get back with my family. I’m the most honest person in my profession. You can ask anybody.”

Wyant set bond at $1,150 on the misdemeanor criminal trespass charge. Bond on the felony burglary charge was set at $40,000. A burglary conviction carries a possible sentence of one to 20 years, according to Yeager.

Williams has hosted the BET awards and appeared in the comedy “First Sunday.” He also had an HBO special, Katt Williams: Pimp Chronicles Pt. 1,” which was shot in Atlanta.

Katt Williams has been hailed by Rolling Stone magazine as “the next Richard Pryor.” Williams’ best material is available in the Katt Box, a 3-CD box set collection of his top three selling albums.

Last week Zynga CEO Mark Pincus said that they would take steps to remove scammy advertising offers from their social games. There have been a couple of missteps since then, and Facebook responded by taking Zynga’s newest game, FishVille, offline.

Zynga insists they are serious about cleaning up the industry. And today Pincus has announced that the company will remove all offer advertising from their games.

This isn’t a meaningless action. Offers account for 1/3 or so of Zynga’s rumored $250 million in revenue.

All offers will be removed by the end of today, says Pincus, “until we can control their inclusion and presentation ourselves.”

The blog post also discloses that Zynga is an investor in DoubleDing, an offer provider that competes with OfferPal and SuperRewards. DoubleDing was serving the mobile offers that popped back onto Zynga on Friday.

Pincus’ blog post:

Ensuring zynga’s user experience ¿ removing all cpa offersmichael arrington posted yesterday on mobile offerings still being shown in our new game fishville. I want to explain why this occurred and how we are taking more aggressive steps to ensure this never happens again. zynga has not been able to control the ad content as it is managed by the offer companies that we work with. with regards to yesterday’s incident, the offer provider, doubleding, told us this was the result of their failure to remove an optimization queue which was still showing these ads to 10% of pageviews. i want to be clear that zynga had no control over the pages being shown and never filtered them from michael or anyone’s view. we recognize it is our responsibility to ensure that offers which generate a bad user experience are not shown with any of our games.therefore, we are removing all CPA offers across zynga games until we can control their inclusion and presentation ourselves. This will be effective by end of day today. this move is worth it for the long-term user experience and value to our partners like facebook and myspace. yesterday?s mobile offer issue was particularly painful as we had helped fund doubleding earlier this year in the hopes of cleaning up the space and raising the bar on user experience. we intend to influence them and others to improve their ad content and be long-term focused for the success of the social gaming and social networking industries.as I said in my post last monday, my mission is to build zynga into a sustainable consumer service with enduring value to our users. we will continue to do whatever it takes to earn our users trust and respect for the long-term.

Fifty-six-year-old Evelyn Border and 35-year-old Tina Griekspoor stood outside the court for 4½ hours Tuesday. They held signs that read: “I stole from a 9-year-old girl on her birthday! Don’t steal or this could happen to you!”

Because the women agreed to hold the signs, Bedford County District Attorney Bill Higgins says he’ll ask for probation instead of jail when they plead guilty to the theft.

At a White House ceremony, Mr. Obama announced that a rule canceling the ban would be published on Monday and would take effect after a routine 60-day waiting period. The president had promised to end the ban before the end of the year.

“If we want to be a global leader in combating H.I.V./AIDS, we need to act like it,” Mr. Obama said. “Now, we talk about reducing the stigma of this disease, yet we’ve treated a visitor living with it as a threat.”

The United States is one of only about a dozen countries that bar people who have H.I.V., the virus that causes AIDS.

President George W. Bush started the process last year when he signed legislation, passed by Congress in July 2008, that repealed the statute on which the ban was based. But the ban remained in effect.

It was enacted in 1987 at a time of widespread fear that H.I.V. could be transmitted by physical or respiratory contact. The ban was further strengthened by Congress in 1993 as an amendment offered by Senator Jesse Helms, Republican of North Carolina.

Because of the restriction, no major international conference on the AIDS epidemic has been held in the United States since 1990. Public health officials here have long said there was no scientific or medical basis for the ban.

Under the ban, United States health authorities have been required to list H.I.V. infection as a “communicable disease of public health significance.” Under immigration law, most foreigners with such a disease cannot travel to the United States. The ban covered both visiting tourists and foreigners seeking to live in this country.

Once the ban is lifted, foreigners applying to become residents in the United States will no longer be required to take a test for AIDS.

In practice, the ban particularly affected tourists and gay men. Waivers were available, but the procedure for tourists and other short-term visitors who were H.I.V. positive was so complicated that many concluded it was not worth it.

For foreigners hoping to immigrate, waivers were available for people who were in a heterosexual marriage, but not for gay couples. Gay advocates said the ban had led to painful separations in families with H.I.V.-positive members that came to live in this country, and had discouraged adoptions of children with the virus.

Gay advocates said the ban also discouraged travelers and some foreigners already living in the United States from seeking testing and medical care for H.I.V. infection.

“The connection between immigration and H.I.V. has frightened people away from testing and treatment,” said Rachel B. Tiven, executive director of Immigration Equality, a group that advocates for gay people in immigration matters. She said lifting the ban would bring “a significant public health improvement.”

“Stigma and exclusion are not a sound basis for immigration policy,” Ms. Tiven said.

Senator John Kerry, Democrat of Massachusetts, who led the effort to repeal the ban, said it had now “gone the way of the dinosaur.”

But, Mr. Kerry added, “it sure took too long to get here.”

International health officials said lifting the ban would end a much-criticized inconsistency in United States health policy, with Washington playing a leading role in AIDS prevention in Africa and other countries with severe epidemics, but preserving restrictions that in practice prevented international AIDS researchers and activists from gathering at conferences here.

In 1989, a Dutch AIDS educator, Hans Verhoef, was detained for several days in St. Paul when he tried to attend a conference. Since then, people involved with AIDS issues have not organized meetings here.

“We think this is going to give a very positive image of where the United States is going in terms of eliminating stigma and discrimination in relation to H.I.V.,” Dr. Socorro Gross, assistant director of the Pan American Health Organization, said Friday.

Exactly how does this work ? I have been married for 20 years and i have learned to just say ” yes dear” and that fixes everything. Why is it necessary to give in to your women? i mean if you don’t give in then your life is miserable, why is that the women never have to give in to keep relationship happy ” a happy wife is a happy home ” granted they deserve all the respect in the world in most cases, but sometimes they are just wrong or hormoned out. When their life is in turmoil then the world is coming to and end and you have to do everything humanly possible to fix the issues that are upsetting them…..I understand that they bare our children, take care of them, raise them, but they also enjoy the greatness of being that one to do all those wonderful things, so i say it is not fair they get all that and what do we as men get ” im going to tell your dad when he gets home ,and boy are you going to be in trouble ” I don’t even want to go into to the sexual relation part………

At the same time there isn’t a more beautiful thing than to be loved by a great woman ! this totally makes sense to me because mars is closer to earth than Venus, so on this theory men are closer to what’s right than women are right ??

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — Ford Motor reported a surprise profit for the third quarter Monday, helped by a bump in sales from the Cash for Clunkers program and problems at its U.S. rivals.

The only major U.S. automaker not to file for bankruptcy this year earned earned $997 million, or 29 cents a share, compared to a loss of $161 million, or 7 cents a share on that basis a year earlier.

Excluding special items, Ford reported a profit of $873 million, or 26 cents a share, in the period. Analysts had been forecasting a loss of 12 cents a share for the quarter on this basis. Ford said it was the first pre-tax operating profit since the start of 2008.

The company said cost cutting during the past year and an improved outlook for sales leads it to believe Ford will be “solidly profitable” in 2011, excluding special items. That’s the most bullish outlook Ford has offered investors since it started losing money in 2005.

“Our third quarter results clearly show that Ford is making tremendous progress despite the prolonged slump in the global economy,” said Ford President and CEO Alan Mulally in a statement.

Shares of Ford (F, Fortune 500) rose about 4% in pre-market trading following the report.

The company reported overall revenue of $30.9 billion in the quarter, down $800 million from the same period a year ago due to a decrease in revenue at its Ford Credit unit.

Ill bet it all goes to the ceo’s for bonuses
